Pocatello, Idaho is named after a Native American Chief of the Shoshone Nation. Today, you can visit the Shoshone/bannock Nations at the Fort Hall Reservation just outside of town. Idaho State University is also located here amid thousands of acres of farm land producing the world famous Idaho Potato. Pocatello was home to the largest rail center west of the Mississippi in the days of the Iron Horse. Today, Pocatello is still the hub in Southeastern Idaho and is a good place to base your explorations from.
