A report From A College Program.
This is a summary report of our experience with LS-90 in various animal programs at our College. We used the LS-90 on several species of animals: rabbits, swine, cattle, poultry, a cat and fish. Most of the groups were too small to draw statistical comparisons, creating an insufficient data base. Nevertheless, some very significant results were obtained.
We unfortunately have a line of sows that is very susceptible to hypocalcemia following farrowing. One sow this year ended up paralyzed. Therefore we decided to experiment by separating 5 first-lactation sows who were full-sisters from this line. Two of the sows did not receive LS-90, while the other three received 2 oz. of the diluted solution daily beginning a few days prior to farrowing. Due to our noncommercial type of setup, we often leave the piglets on the sows up to 8 weeks. Beginning at the 4th and 5th week, the two sows who were not on the LS-90 showed typical weakness, emaciation, and slight tremors. We then weaned the sows to prevent further damage to their metabolism. The other 3 groups of piglets were weaned at 8 and 9 weeks respectively, with no evidence of hypocalcemia. Good appetites, and good body conformation were evident. The piglets were healthier and smoother than the other 2 groups, and were also statistically heavier. Although I do not have the exact figures at hand at this moment, they were collected by the students at regular intervals.
Last summer one of the farm cats was accidentally caught in a trap and fractured the bone about 2 1/2 inches above the paw. She accidentally escaped without treatment, and 1 week later appeared with a large area of debrided and infected tissue -- which when cleaned revealed the infected ends of the broken bones. We did not have the facilities to do surgery, so decided to give her antibiotics, cage rest, and to daily give her diluted LS-90 in her drinking bowl. We treated her twice daily with an external poultice of LS-90 and BON-X herbal combination. We also gave her an herbal tincture of goldenseal/echinaces for a period of two weeks, both internal and external. We held little hope because of the bone infection, although the skin healed rapidly in 10-14 days closing the 3/4 inch gaping hole. Then a fistulous tract became evident indicating continuing bone involvement; but this healed at the end of the 4th week by which time a good callus joined the previously fractured and infected bones. This brought to a successful conclusion an often disappointing medical situation in record time and avoided amputation. The cat was discharged and continues completely normal.
About 80 rabbits were monitored last year In our animal husbandry courses. Mortality during the first term was 40%, about 10% above the reported national averages. The second term we began the entire group on very diluted LS-90 -- 4 oz. of the dilute per 3 gallons of water. The second term mortality dropped to 20%, which included some killed by a wild cat. We also gave special attention to several pregnant and nursing does with raspberry tea and more concentrated LS-90. We did not notice any significant extra improvement with the extra attention, however.
We had an interesting experience with a group of 6 rabbits which were proven to have Nosema, a widespread protozoal infection of rabbits (all were dehydrated and emaciated). Two died suddenly and were submitted to the local lab for autopsy. We put the remaining bunnies on LS-90 which they drank immediately -- one more eventually died, but we were impressed by the desire of the rabbits to drink this solution and an almost immediate reversal of dehydration.
At no point have we noticed any toxic or negative effects using LS-90. Apparently it is effective on a herd basis to maintain health at dilutions far below that used on the individual basis (when an animal is sick and needs to regain health); however we were not able to statistically arrive at the most cost-effective level due to insufficient groups of animals. We do not see LS-90 as a cure-all; but rather as a help to counter stress and to balance metabolism, as well as to stimulate the immune system and to aid proper mineral balance.
A Report From A Veterinarian.
I am a Veterinarian who is in the general practice of Veterinary Medicine. I have a 60% large, and 40% small animal practice. In the past I have had numerous opportunities to implement LS-90 in my practice.
My first trials were spaying dogs. I would use it as a cleaner and when done would spray the incision after closure - - two notable facts were observed--reduced inflammation and a definite reduction of capillary hemorrhage. No side effects observed.
I used LS-90 as a spray on several wounds, including wire-cut horses, dogs in accident cases, etc. Reduction of hemorrhage and as an aid for debriding were two foremost aids--by good debriding action the fresh viable tissue was allowed to heal and yet not an overrun of proud flesh--pain definitely appeared to lessen -- again no side effects whatsoever.
About this time I was wondering about using LS-90 parentally. I first used it mixed with various antibiotics including Pen-Strep and numerous broad spectrum antibiotics as long as they had a water base. It definitely appeared that there was a synergistic action as the response of the patient was in most cases quite dramatic. Recovery appeared to be much more rapid-the animal would drink water more affluently thus establishing its electrolytic balance with more ease.
I had a few times to use LS-90 in the water for treatment. This is mixed in the drinking water according to directions--in this case it was used for stress conditions (long haul after sale), Hemorrhagic Septicemia, etc. Three things were noted in those cases -- the calves continued to drink water -- or if were off water returned to drinking quite readily. Second, dehydration was resolved more quickly--third, besides going back on feed more easily, they appeared to have a tranquil attitude. This is very hard to explain, but it was evident and could not be denied. Again, no side effects.
One of my last experiments with parental injection was to use LS-90 as a synergist intravenously. At first I had some apprehension but as I started with a low percentage and increased it.. I soon learned there were no side effects or shock whatsoever. I used it as an adjuvant with sulfa, electrolytes -- Cal-dextro and glucose combinations -- One case was severe scours where I used it orally -- results were delightfully astounding. In no case did I find any side effects.
